Architectural M\E\P Design:
Renovations for Unique
Conditions
Project:
Northrup Grumann Office Space/Building Renovations D & D
Task: Electrical Distribution
Northrup Grumann Corporation was in the process
of moving one of its facilities from a Virginia location to a location in
Pittsburgh, PA. The selected site was a traditional office structure with
acoustical ceiling tile and typical lighting and fire protection systems.
D & D Engineering, in a teaming effort with a local architectural firm, was
given the task of performing the renovation design which would accommodate all
of the office space and security needs for the client.
Based on the nature of the work being performed
at this facility, substantial architectural, mechanical, and electrical
modifications had to be made to the office space designated for Northrup Grumann.
All of the electrical distribution had to be modified to incorporate a central
UPS system and redundancy at the first network level for the data storage unit.
In addition, the LAN system needed to be hardened against any possible
infiltration by exterior use of electromagnetic or radio frequency systems.
The central computing room was installed with a raised floor to enable the
design of a completely sealed room including the heating and air conditioning
system. In the conference room, special audio visual systems were
installed to allow communication with other client locations and projection
systems were installed to allow for classroom situations. Lighting to
accommodate the classroom environment, the audio visual systems and the use of
the room as a traditional conference room were all integral to the design.
